Frankincense is mostly used in worship, rituals, havan, yagna, etc. as it is considered sacred in Hinduism. It also has special significance in the incense materials used for worship but it is not only used in worship, but also in many Ayurvedic medicines, especially in the form of "frankincense oil" which is considered extremely beneficial for health. Frankincense is also known as Lohbaan, Shyam Dhoop in Sanskrit, and Hasnlub in Persian.
Burning frankincense brings a distinct aroma. This fragrance is very strong, which spreads throughout the surroundings and makes it clean and positive. It is believed that its fragrance brings peace to the body and mind. On one hand, frankincense depuration makes the environment pure, while on the other hand, frankincense oil is also healthy for the body as it is also an essential ingredient in cosmetics.
What is Frankincense oil?
Frankincense oil is prepared from the resin of the frankincense tree whose scientific name is Boswellia sacra, which belongs to the Burseraceae Family. According to Ayurveda, frankincense oil is found to have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, analgesic, astringent, expectorant, and stimulant properties. Apart from this, other types of ingredients like alpha-pinene, octanol, bornyl acetate, linalool, etc. are also found in this oil due to which this oil is used to relieve swelling, headache, pain in joints, and muscles, skin problems, vomiting, and hiccups. It is used as a medicinal herb, in several home remedies and also for enhancing beauty. Apart from this, frankincense oil is also used in capsule form (for intake).

The benefits of frankincense oil include benefits ranging from health to hair and skin. Let's know about these benefits-
Beneficial in respiratory problems-
Frankincense oil cures breathing problems by opening the blocked nose. This increases the ability of the lungs to carry oxygen. The use of this oil strengthens the muscles of the respiratory system. Therefore, frankincense oil is used in inhalers and cold-related medicines. It also removes phlegm accumulated in the respiratory system and lungs. In addition, frankincense oil can be used as a perfume to remove respiratory problems which makes it easier to take deep breaths.
Blockages in the nasal muscles are called sinusitis or sinuses. This is a type of infection, which causes swelling in the inner part of the nose which results in pain in the nose and difficulty in breathing. In such a situation, frankincense oil proves to be very helpful. For this, after heating the water, adding a few drops of frankincense oil to it and taking steam, opens the blockage due to sinus which eliminates the trouble in breathing.
Worrying excessively leads to headaches but research done on frankincense suggests that its oil can reduce anxiety and its pain. Rub a few drops of this oil in your hands and take a deep breath and smell it. By doing this, headaches and other types of mental fatigue are eliminated. It results in good sleep.

Frankincense oil helps in reducing headaches caused by anxiety, fatigue, stress, etc. Frankincense oil has a positive effect on the Central Nervous System. It gives relief in anxiety, tension, fatigue, headache, etc. For this, take a few drops of frankincense oil and apply it well on the temples and neck. By doing this, anxiety, depression, and mental stress are removed. Also, sprinkling a few drops of frankincense oil on your bed results in good sleep. In addition, frankincense oil is also used for aromatherapy.
To relax the muscles-
Frankincense has pain-relieving and antispasmodic properties which work to relieve muscle spasms and pain. Therefore, massaging the muscles affected with frankincense oil reduces the feeling of fatigue and the muscles also feel relaxed.

According to research published on NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information), frankincense oil has anti-inflammatory properties which prove to be effective in the problem of inflammation in arthritis. Also, frankincense oil has mostly disinfectant properties. Therefore, this oil is helpful in reducing pain and swelling permanently because it kills the skin-irritating bacteria. At the same time, it lightens the sensory nervous system of the skin, which reduces pain and also reduces the inflammation of the skin.
To eliminate allergies and infections-
Frankincense oil helps in removing many types of allergies and infections. The anti-inflammatory properties present in frankincense work to reduce allergies and its antifungal, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties work to eliminate infection-causing bacteria.

Precautions while using Frankincense oil
Frankincense oil has many health benefits but its irregular or excessive use can cause many types of health issues such as-

- Frankincense oil should not be consumed during pregnancy because it works to increase menstruation.
