Turmeric is a herb. Its plant is 5 to 6 feet and turmeric is obtained from the roots of the plant which is known for its finest taste. Turmeric is a known ingredient used for curing many illnesses and its oil is used in cosmetics for many skin benefits. It is used not only in foods but also in many Ayurvedic medicines, especially the use of natural oil of turmeric is considered highly beneficial for health. In popular parlance, the natural oil of turmeric is also known as turmeric essential oil. Turmeric essential oil is extracted from the steam distillation process using turmeric.
Importance of Turmeric Essential Oil in Ayurveda?
Turmeric Essential Oil has anti-allergic, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, antifungal and antiparasitic properties just like turmeric powder. It is also rich in antioxidants. Many medicinal properties are found in turmeric essential oil due to which turmeric and its oil have been considered as important in Ayurveda. From skin whitening to pain relief, turmeric essential oil is helpful for various home remedies to cure many diseases. This is the reason why it is considered a panacea treatment for cold and cough.
What are the benefits of turmeric essential oil?
Beneficial for the skin-
Turmeric essential oil is very good for the skin. It works to take care of skin health. The antioxidants present in it relieve skin-related problems. Along with this, the anti-fungal and anti-bacterial present in it is also beneficial for the skin. Applying this oil on the skin removes fine lines, pimples, wrinkles and aging problems. This oil improves the elasticity of the skin and maintains its moisture level.
Avoidance of free radicals-
Turmeric essential oil provides protection against free radicals present in the body. These free radicals present in the body cause many serious diseases. The antioxidant present in this oil works to fight free radicals due to which the body is protected from serious diseases.
Beneficial in infection, allergy and inflammation-
Turmeric essential oil has anti-inflammatory, anti fungal, antibacterial properties which are helpful in preventing infection, allergies and inflammation. This oil helps in getting rid of parasitic infections such as tapeworm and ringworm.

For this, it is good to massage the scalp by mixing a few drops of turmeric essential oil in one of the oils of coconut, jojoba and olive oil.

Turmeric essential oil works to retain moisture in the skin. Due to its properties, it is used in moisturizing products. Turmerics antifungal and antimicrobial properties relieve infection to the scalp. In addition, anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric are beneficial for relieving itching of the scalp.
Helpful in relieving pain and swelling-
Disinfectant properties are found in turmeric essential oil. Therefore, this oil is helpful in reducing pain and swelling permanently because it kills the skin irritating bacteria. Also, curcumin found in turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory compound that reduces pain due to which the inflammation of the skin also ends.
Effective in treating cracked heels-
Being an excellent healing agent, turmeric essential oil can be used to effectively soften a cracked heel. For this, using a few drops of turmeric essential oil mixed with coconut, jojoba and olive oil, one gets rid of the cracks of the heel within a few days.
In the form of cosmetics-
Turmeric extracts are also used in many face wash products. Turmeric is also very useful as a beauty enhancing ingredient. Indian women have been using turmeric since ancient times to enhance their skin tone. Turmeric contains ingredients that cleanse the blood, enhance the appearance and make the skin fair and radiant. In Indian matrimonial ceremonies, turmeric paste is applied to enhance the beauty of the bride and groom.
As an immunity booster-
According to experts, regular intake of natural oil of turmeric is very helpful in increasing immunity of the body. A substance called lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin) is found in the natural oil of turmeric which contains anti-bacterial, antiviral and antifungal agents, which boost our immunity. In addition, the important component of turmeric, curcumin, can be rich in anti-inflammatory properties as well as acting as an immunomodulatory agent (agent affecting immunity). It also improves the functioning of various immune cells such as B-cells (white blood cells) due to which the body is able to fight against many diseases like- allergy, cold-cough, diabetes, asthma and heart disease.
How to use turmeric essential oil?
Mix 2 drops of turmeric essential oil in 3 tablespoons of olive oil and keep it in a pot or jar. Now apply the paste and massage your face with light hands on your face everyday before going to bed at night. Skin diseases like acne, rashes, wrinkles etc. are cured by doing this. Along with this, the skin gets a lot of glow.
To apply to hair-
A few drops of coconut, jojoba and olive oil mixed with turmeric essential oil should be massaged on the hair and scalp. Doing this relieves the fungal infection of the scalp in a few days due to which the hair becomes thick and long.
Mixing turmeric essential oil with some other oil and using it on the skin improves skin. Apart from this, it also reduces the damage caused by the UV rays.
