Pineapple (Botanical name: Comosus pineapple or Comosus pineapple) is a fruit that works to increase strength, appetite and cure the blood-bile disorder. It tastes sour-sweet and golden in colour. In pineapple, vitamin-A, vitamin-C, antioxidants, fiber, calcium, thiamine, potassium, manganese, folate, etc. are found in abundance. It also contains sodium and fat in small amounts, which is beneficial for people on dieting.
Pineapples have various medicinal properties, with the help of which it reduces fever and helps in urination problems. Apart from this, pineapple also helps in relieving stomach gas, pain, acidity, and physical weakness.
Benefits of Pineapple
It is beneficial in improving digestion power-
Pineapple helps calm the intestine by stimulating digestive power. It contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. It plays an important role in the digestion and bowel movement process. Apart from this, it also contains an element called bromelain, which helps in digesting protein. Pineapple acts as a natural laxative. It also eliminates the problem of constipation.
Beneficial for the health of bones-
Pineapple is rich in mineral manganese. It is extremely important for bone health. Manganese protects cells from free-radical damage. This helps to slow down aging and prevents cancer. A cup of fresh pineapple juice fulfills the daily requirement of manganese in the body by 75 percent.
Beneficial in inflammation problem-
Pineapple contains an element called bromelain, which acts as a natural anti-inflammatory agent. This element relieves the body from inflammation. It helps in healing associated with minor stretch, sprain, and injury in the muscles.
Effective in anemia-
Consumption of pineapple is beneficial in removing anemia in the body. Pineapple intake increases the absorption of iron in the body. It also increases the amount of hemoglobin in the body and helps to overcome the lack of blood.
Beneficial in diphtheria disease-
Pineapple contains Bromelain element along with Vitamin-C. This helps in removing chest congestion. For this reason, eating pineapple also helps in reducing the symptoms of diphtheria disease.
Help in preventing cancer-
Consuming pineapple is a good way to prevent a serious disease like cancer. Because the vitamin C found in pineapples helps prevent cancer cells from growing.
Beneficial in treating Tuberculosis (TB)-
Pineapple has anti-tuberculosis activity due to which consuming pineapple juice is beneficial in the treatment of TB.
Side-effects of Pineapple
- Because of the exorbitant amount of natural sugar in pineapple, it can increase blood sugar levels. Therefore, people with diabetes should avoid it.
- Consuming excessive amounts of pineapple can cause swelling in the tongue, lips, and inner cheeks.
- Avoid pineapple or its juice for a day before any type of surgery and 15 days later.
- Drinking a lot of pineapple juice can cause miscarriage.
Where is Pineapple found?
Pineapple is a wild plant found in Brazil. In India, it can be found in the regions of Meghalaya, Assam, Odisha, Western Ghats, West Bengal, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka. It grows abundantly on the beaches of Kerala and the Andaman Islands.
