Symptoms, Causes and Remedies of Physical Weakness

The feeling of tiredness in the body and feeling lethargic all the time is physical weakness. It may also happen that the person feeling weak is unable to move any part of his body or he may feel tremors or cramps in that part. Some people feel weakness in some parts of their body like hands or feet while others feel weakness in the whole body due to bacterial infection or viral infection like influenza or hepatitis. Generally, physical weakness is for some time but in some cases, it can last for a long time. To treat weakness, it is first necessary to identify its cause based on which its symptoms should be treated.

Types of Physical Weakness

There are mainly two types of physical weakness. These are listed below-

Neuromuscular weakness-

In neuromuscular weakness, muscle strength is lost due to which his ability to work decreases.

Non-neuromuscular weakness-

In non-neuromuscular weakness, you feel weak while doing any work whereas, in reality, the muscle is completely normal.

Symptoms of Physical Weakness

  • Feeling weak in certain parts of the body or unable to move that part properly.
  • Delay in doing any work with the affected limb or feeling tremors in the affected limb.
  • Muscle cramps and tiredness in the body.
  • Feeling weak all the time without tiredness.
  • Fever, flu-like symptoms and pain in the affected limb.
  • Loss of vision and sudden fainting.
  • Difficulty speaking and swallowing.
  • Change in mental state.

Causes of Physical Weakness

Anxiety & Depression-

Anxiety and depression are considered the main causes of fatigue and weakness because worrying too much or living in depression have a very bad effect on the living standard and working style, that is why when a person is under stress, he experiences symptoms of weakness. Unfortunately, such cases go undiagnosed because they are not easily identifiable.

Lethargy-

Due to a sedentary lifestyle and lethargy, muscles become weak over time due to which weakness is felt in the body.

Ageing-

As we age, the body's cells and tissues lose their ability to keep pace with each other. For this reason, the body of old people saves its energy by being less active, otherwise, they experience weakness.

Infections and long-lasting diseases-

If the body has to fight frequent infections, then there is a lack of energy in the body. The patient also feels tired due to long-standing infections in the body like tuberculosis and hepatitis. One reason for this is, the muscles become weak due to these diseases. Similarly, due to diabetes and insomnia, the sufferer starts feeling very weak.

Vitamin deficiency-

The deficiency of important vitamins leads to decreased production of red blood cells due to which the build-up of energy in the body decreases and the body feels weak.

Other Causes of Physical Weakness

  • Anaemia ( this may be due to excessive bleeding during menstruation).
  • Lack of sleep.Heart failure.
  • Vitamin B-12 deficiency.
  • Side effects of drugs.
  • Heart attack.
  • Nerve or muscle injury.
  • Diseases affecting nerves or muscles.

Measures to prevent Weakness

  • Avoid consuming caffeine and alcohol.
  • Avoid excessive exercise or dieting.
  • Be sure to get enough sleep at night.
  • Include calcium, protein and low-fat food in your diet.
  • Eat a diet rich in nutrients, it keeps the energy in the body and reduces fatigue.
  • Try to walk outside in an open environment for at least thirty minutes daily. It calms the mind and body, reduces stress and has a positive effect on mental health.

Treatment of physical weakness

Weakness due to infection-

The lost energy can be recovered with the help of antibiotics prescribed by the doctor to fight the infection.

Weakness caused by depression-

This type of fatigue can be treated with antidepressant medications.

Weakness due to lack of vitamins-

Vitamin insufficiency is fulfilled to correct the metabolic abnormality caused by the deficiency of the vitamin. Most of the fatigue is due to a deficiency of vitamin B12 and folate. Weaknesses can be corrected by filling their deficiency.

Weakness due to overwork-

If muscle weakness is occurring due to overwork, it can be treated by making lifestyle changes.

  • In case of dizziness.
  • Having trouble speaking.
  • When there is a change in vision.
  • When there is pain in the chest.
  • Having trouble breathing.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
