What is Anantmool and its benefits?

Anantmool, known as Hemidesmus indicus in scientific language is a type of creeper that can be seen in gardens, temples, and the surrounding areas. According to Ayurveda, anantmool is a classical herb due to its uses. Many diseases are treated with its help. Fever, vomiting, diabetes, eye disease, leucorrhea, leprosy, oral diseases, itching, etc. are cured with Anantmool.

What is Anantmool like?

Anantmool is a vine, which is always green. This multi-year vine is thin, long, forward-growing, spread on the ground, or can take support of tree for growing. It is 5 to 15 feet in length. Its bark is black and the branches are reddish-brown. On these branches are fragrant flowers of greenish-white and purple color. Its root brings a camphor mixed sandalwood-like aroma. Apart from this, a milk-like substance comes out when its roots are broken.

Importance of Anantmool according to Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, this herb is infinitely fragrant, pungent, sweet, bitter, cold, heavy, semen-enhancing (sperm growth), smooth, have blood cleansing properties, destroys imbalances of vata, pitta, and Kapha, and also enhances immunity. Apart from this, it can cure cough, fever, itching, burning, skin diseases, blood disorders (dyspepsia), indigestion, sweating, urinary diseases, stimulant, appetite enhancer (increased appetite), It is also beneficial in reducing body odor, breath, toxins, wounds, and thirst, etc.

Benefits of Anantmool

For eyes-

Taking out the milk from the roots, and applying it to the eyes, helps to reduce swelling of the eyes. Apart from this, to cure the swelling caused by the bite of an insect, grinding the seed of the root is beneficial.  Apply the lukewarm paste to the swollen area.

For fever-

Make a decoction (Kadha) of the root or leaves, and its stalk, and drink it. This will reduce the temperature in fever. Apart from this, using anantmool leaves cooked in oil also reduces fever.

For mouth and throat disease-

Gargling with a decoction made from the anantmool plant reduces swelling of the tongue and bleeding from the teeth and also provides relief in throat diseases like swelling of the throat.

For head disease and night blindness-

Cook the leaves of anantmool properly in oil, filter, and cool them. Now apply it to the head. It is beneficial in head disorders. Washing eyes with a decoction made of anantmool plant is beneficial in night blindness disease.

For gonorrhea and physical cramps-

Taking decoction made from Anantmool is beneficial in gonorrhea (excessive vaginal discharge) and body spasms.

For diabetes, urinary and spleen diseases-

Diabetes has become a common disease nowadays. Using anantmool helps to control the blood sugar in the body. For this, grind the root of anantmool and take its powder with milk. This reduces diabetes. Taking decoction of Anantmool is also beneficial in diseases like enlargement of the spleen, bleeding in urine, etc.

For indigestion and breast disorders-

Mixing one teaspoon of the powder of anantmool root with one teaspoon of sariva powder and taking it helps in indigestion. Also, mixing Pipli powder in the decoction of its root and taking it is beneficial in breast-related disorders after delivery.

For the treatment of dysentery and hemorrhoids-

Consuming the powder of Anantmool helps to relieve dysentery. Apart from this, taking powder of its root with curd or buttermilk is also beneficial in piles.

For wound treatment and insect bites-

Cooking leaves of anantmool in oil and applying them on the wounds cures wounds quickly. Apart from this, by grinding anantmool on the bite of a worm insect, the effect of the poison of that insect is reduced.

For the problem of stones and arthritis-

Consuming the powder made with the roots of Anantmool with milk helps to cure the stones. At the same time, applying the paste prepared by grinding the root of Anantmool and its root on arthritis and joints, provides relief in arthritis and joint pain.

Where is Anantmool found?

The vine of Anantmool is found in abundance in the Himalayan regions, ranging from the seashore regions to a height of 1200 meters. Apart from this, the plant of Anantmool can also be seen in areas like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bengal, etc.
