Conch shells (Shankh) have special importance in India. Conch is a sea creature from where we obtain conch shells. Shankh is one of the fourteen precious gems received at the time of Samudra Manthan. It is also called Lakshmi Sibodar i.e. Lakshmi’s brother due to being born with Goddess Lakshmi. For this reason, it is said that the house where there is a shankh, is inhabited by Goddess Lakshmi. The shankh is found to contain 100 percent calcium, which is prominent in religious works as well as in Ayurveda. It is used in both tantric and sattvik works.
