Blackberry is an evergreen exotic fruit and is very attractive and juicy in taste. Many types of nutritious elements are found in it which are beneficial for both beauty and health. It is used not only in the form of fruit but also in its tree, stem, root and leaves are used in the treatment of many types of diseases.

 

The Blackberry plant is a deciduous plant. Its length ranges from 3 to 4 meters with dense branches that are curved and teddy. The leaves of the blackberry plant are 3 to 15 cm long. Blackberry bears very beautiful pink and white flowers which are seen blooming in five petals. Blackberry fruits are produced in these flowers which are green, pink or red in the beginning but when the fruits are in the ripe stage they become black in colour. Due to its black colour, this fruit is known as blackberry.

 

Nutritional Properties in Blackberry

Blackberry contains elements like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, fibre, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, folate, flavonoids, fatty acids and antioxidants that play an important role in making the body healthy. It is such a fruit that not one but many species are found and all its species are known by different names around the world. Blackberry is called Bramble in Britain. While in America it is also called Cannaberry. Blackberry looks like a Jamun but it is not Jamun. Most people mistake Jamun for Blackberry. While these two fruits are different from each other, it is native to Europe although it is used in most of the countries of the continent like America, Australia and Asia.

 

Types of Blackberry

There are many types of blackberries found around the world but basically, there are three types of blackberry-

 

Erect thorny Blackberries-

The fruits of this type of blackberry are medium-sized with juice. The leaves of its plant are prickly trifoliate. Its leaves are prickly that's why this blackberry is called prickly blackberry.

 

Loganberries-

The fruit of the loganberry is attractive and larger than the prickly blackberry. The colour of this fruit is dark green or dark red which is sour and sweet in taste. It is mostly used in making juice or wine.

 

Marionberries-

Marionberries are extremely nutritious and are rich in antioxidants. The marionberry is larger and rounder than the visible loganberry and prickly blackberry. These are tasty to eat.

 

Benefits of Blackberry

Beneficial for the eyes-

The eyes are an important part of the body, so it is important to keep the eyes healthy. Using blackberry is beneficial in any kind of disease related to the eyes because it is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin E which are beneficial in making the eyes disease-free.
