2022-01-04 19:16:02

There are certain problems that are often ignored by people. One of those problems is varicose veins. The vein of the leg or any other part of the person suffering from this problem suddenly becomes stiff. Apart from this, varicose veins are swollen and twisted veins that can be seen under the skin. Any vein can be a varicose vein but the most affected nerves are in the feet or toes. The main reason for this is the increase in pressure in the lower extremities due to standing or walking.

What are Varicose veins?

Veins serve to carry blood from the tissues to the heart. The veins have to move the blood from the legs to the heart against gravity. There are valves inside these veins to carry blood upwards. This valve allows blood to flow only upwards but when the valves become weak, the blood cannot flow upwards properly and sometimes it starts flowing downwards. In such a condition, the veins swell and due to the increase in length, these veins become crooked which in medical language is called Varicose veins.

Causes of Varicose veins

Growing old-

One of the biggest causes of varicose veins is old age because, with age, the veins of the body start getting stretched. It is not felt till a person is between 40 to 50 years but after this age, we start feeling weak. As a result, the nerves become more fragile due to which the blood flowing towards the heart starts flowing in the opposite direction due to which blood collects in the veins and the veins start swelling. Therefore, at this age, it is very important for a person to be active.

Women are more likely to have it-

Women are more likely to have varicose veins. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or periods increase the risk of varicose veins. Apart from this, hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills can also cause problems like varicose veins.

Obesity-

Excess body weight also puts pressure on the nerves. This increases the risk of getting varicose veins.

Familial disease factors-

If a parent, sibling or any other family member already has varicose veins, the chances of developing this disease in other members also increase significantly.

Standing or sitting in the same posture for a long time-

If a person is standing or sitting in the same posture continuously or for several hours, then the tension in his veins can increase due to which the circulation of blood is not done properly. As a result, a person may face the problem of varicose veins.
