Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an intestinal disease. The main reason for this is changes in today's daily routine and eating habits. This disease causes complaints of inflammation and irritation in the large intestine due to which there are ulcers in the colon and rectum of the large intestine. Ulcers in the large intestine are the cause of unbearable pain in the stomach. The symptoms of which develop gradually. If not treated on time, these blisters turn into wounds which can prove to be fatal after some time. Therefore, it is very important to treat it as soon as this problem is detected.

Inflammation in the intestine or digestive tract is medically called inflammatory bowel disease. This is an inflammation of the intestine which can cause ulcers if left in the digestive tract for a long time. Inflammation of the large intestine usually affects the inner part of the rectum. This problem can also cause internal bleeding and infection.

Types of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

According to the doctor, there are two types of inflammatory bowel disease. Let's take a look at these types –

Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammation of the large intestines which can cause ulcers if left in the digestive tract for a long time. Inflammation of the large intestine usually affects the inner part of the rectum. Its subtypes are as follows:

  • Ulcerative Proctitis-  This type of ulcerative colitis is common. In this type, the swelling is limited to around the rectum and bleeding from the anus is the only sign of the disease.

  • Proctosigmoiditis- In this type of ulcerative colitis, there is inflammation in the rectum and sigmoid colon (lower side of the abdomen). Its symptoms include bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps and difficulty in defecating.

  • Left side colitis- In this type of ulcerative colitis, the inflammation extends from the sigmoid colon, that is, from the bottom of the large intestine to the anus. This leads to problems like pain in the left side of the abdomen, cramps and difficulty while defecating.

  • Pen Colitis- It usually affects the sigmoid colon which causes severe bloody diarrhea due to which complex problems like abdominal cramps, pain, fatigue, weakness and weight loss arise.

Crohn's disease

The inflammation that usually occurs in Crohn's disease can occur in any part of the digestive system. Most often this inflammation affects the lower part of the intestine.

Some diseases are genetic which keep passing from one generation to another among the members of the family including inflammatory bowel disease. If any family member has inflammatory bowel disease, then there is a great possibility that it could pass to another generation in the family.
