It is common to have phlegm or cough due to changes in weather in which cough occurs with cold even when there is a mild cold. The nose, throat, etc., become closed when there is a cold in which many times the cold is cured but the cough did not leave the chase for long. As a result, there is shortness of breath and a strange sound while coughing. All these symptoms point towards dry cough. This cough is without phlegm which can happen to any person because having a cough or dry cough is a common infection. Therefore, it should not be ignored as a sign of changing weather. Doing so can have many side effects.

What is Dry cough?

Dry cough is called tickly cough in other words. It is a respiratory tract infection when infected with a dry cough, the amount of phlegm or mucus is very less. The effect of which is not immediately visible on the person but within a few days, the effects of this cough start showing. This disease can occur in people of any age.

 

Symptoms of Dry cough

Although the symptoms of dry cough are not visible immediately. It may take about 1 to 2 weeks for them to appear but in most cases, the symptoms of dry cough i.e. dry phlegm are similar to cold. Apart from this, dry cough also has some other symptoms which are the following-

 
  • No mucus when coughing.
  • Feeling of something stuck in the throat.
  • Mild or severe pain in the throat.
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Wheezing sound in breathing.
  • Dry vomiting while coughing or after.
  • Mild difficulty in swallowing.
  • Persistent dry throat.
  • Having pain in the neck.
  • Mild fever

Causes of Dry cough

Dry cough can be caused by the following reasons which we should always keep in mind-

 
  • Having a viral infection.
  • Breathing cold, dry air.
  • By breathing in chemical fumes or air pollution.
  • Frequent exposure to dust and soil.
  • Loss of moisture in the throat.
  • Change in temperature.
  • Having a major disease like TB, asthma, lung cancer etc.

Take these Precautions in case of Dry cough

  • Do not smoke at all.
  • Avoid going in an infected and polluted environment.
  • Always wear a mask if a person is infected with it. By doing this, other members of the household will be protected from this infection.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Do not consume ice cream, curd, ice water at all.
  • If there is no problem with vomiting after coughing, eat light food.
  • Avoid the consumption of oily and fatty food.

Home remedies for Dry cough

Drink plenty of fluids-

Drink plenty of fluids like warm liquids like tea and soup to relieve sore throat and dry mucus.

 
Gargle with warm saltwater-

Gargle with warm saltwater. For this, mix a teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water.

 
Tea mixed with honey-

Tea mixed with honey is one of the good home remedies for dry throat because it helps in reducing dry cough and other throat problems. Therefore, this tea (tea mixed with honey) proves to be effective when there is a cough. Apart from this, mix an equal quantity of honey, pomegranate juice and ginger juice and consume it 3-4 times daily. Doing this relieves dry cough.

 
Asafetida and ginger-

Taking asafetida and ginger also provides relief from cough. For this, roast a pinch of asafetida and mix it with half a teaspoon of ginger paste. Now lick this mixture. By doing this, there is relief in headaches associated with dry cough.

 
Apple cider vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar is one of the good medicines for dry cough because it contains acetic acid that has antimicrobial properties that help to fight against bacterial and virus infections.

 
Black pepper tea-

It is good to take tea made from black pepper for dry cough and sore throat because black pepper has antioxidant properties, is a natural pain reliever, and provides relief from sore throat and pain.

 
Tulsi-

Tulsi has antioxidant properties which work to protect the body from the problems caused by the changing seasons. Tulsi enhances immunity.

 
Turmeric-

Turmeric has antibacterial and antioxidant properties which work to relieve cough, sore throat and cold. In such a case, drink half a teaspoon of turmeric mixed with a glass of milk in case of dry cough.

 
Lemon and honey-

According to Ayurveda, both lemon and honey have immunity-boosting properties. The use of lemon and honey is recommended in case of dry cough because this mixture detoxifies the body and increases immunity. For this, take a glass of lukewarm water mixed with lemon juice and honey.

 
Coriander seeds-

Coriander seeds boost the body's immune system to fight bacteria. For this, make tea by adding a tablespoon of coriander powder, a little milk and sugar in a glass of water and consume it twice a day. In this way, coriander tea works as a very effective medicine in dry cough or other types of bacterial infections.

 
Garlic-

Garlic has anti-bacterial properties which help in reducing dry cough. Apart from this, garlic also has antimicrobial properties that activate the immune system and protect against infection. For this, sucking 2 to 3 cloves of garlic between your teeth is beneficial.

 
Onion-

In traditional medicine, onions have been used for asthma, bronchitis as well as dry cough because onions have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-carcinogenic and antioxidant properties. All these properties destroy bacteria. For this, the roasted onion should be consumed with honey or by mixing one spoon of honey in onion juice.
