Many serious diseases are born due to a wrong lifestyle and unbalanced diet. One of those serious diseases is the problem of fatty liver. This is a liver-related disease, which literally means the accumulation of excess fat in the liver of a person. It is normal to have a normal amount of fat in the body but when its quantity starts increasing, then problems like fatty liver arise. As a result, there is a bad effect on health.

 

Since the liver is the second major organ of the body, it is found in vertebrates only. The liver works in the body from digesting food to making bile. Apart from this, the liver's function is to detoxify various metabolites, synthesize proteins, protect the body from infection, control blood sugar, reduce fat and play an important role in making biochemicals necessary for digestion.

 

Symptoms of Fatty liver

There are many symptoms of fatty liver. The main ones that indicate the beginning are as follows-

 
  • Unbearable pain in the upper abdomen.
  • Feeling of bloating in the abdomen.
  • Rapid drop or loss of weight.
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes.
  • Feeling more weak or tired.
  • Indigestion or acidity.
  • Feeling of confusion.
  • Redness of palms.

Causes of Fatty liver

There are many reasons why people can suffer from fatty liver. Let us know about these reasons-

 
  • Excess weight.
  • Consuming more alcohol.
  • High level of fat in the blood.
  • Having diabetes.
  • Consuming fatty food and spicy food.
  • Having high blood pressure.
  • High levels of chlorine in drinking water.
  • Suffering from viral hepatitis.
  • Long-term use of medicines such as aspirin, steroids, tretinoin.

Types of Fatty Liver

There are mainly two types of fatty liver-

 

Alcoholic fatty liver disease-

This is a type of fatty liver, which occurs in people who consume more alcohol. Excessive consumption of alcohol is one of the reasons for the accumulation of fat in the liver due to which the liver becomes inflamed and the liver is damaged.

 

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease-

Non-alcoholic fatty liver is also a cause of inflammation in the liver. The main reason for this is high fatty food and improper lifestyle. As a result of which diseases like obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure surround the body.

 

Stages of Fatty Liver

There are mainly four stages of fatty liver, which are as follows-

 

Steatosis-

This is the initial stage of the disease which is also known as Simple Fatty Liver. In this stage, fat starts to accumulate in the liver but there is no swelling of any kind. During this time there are no symptoms of any kind of fatty liver. It can be identified only through medical tests. This type of disease is cured by the consumption of a proper diet.

 

Steatohepatitis-

Steatohepatitis is a severe stage, which falls under the category of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, also known as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. The person suffering from this problem gets swollen around the liver and the person needs medical help.

 

Fibrosis-

When the blood vessels around the liver start forming scar tissue. In this stage the liver does not function normally, then that condition is known as fibrosis.

 

Cirrhosis-

This is the deadliest stage of fatty liver in which the liver starts shrinking. After reaching this stage, only a liver transplant is the only option for a person.

 

Take these precautions at the time of fatty liver

  • Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Eat more fibre-rich foods such as legumes and whole grains.
  • Include strong-smelling foods like garlic onions etc in the food because it prevents the accumulation of fat.
  • Drink green tea.
  • Avoid consumption of fried and junk food.
  • Avoid the use of excess salt, refined carbohydrates and white sugar.
  • Do not consume alcohol at all.
  • Take spinach, broccoli, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, luffa, carrot, beet, radish etc.
  • Rajma, white gram, black lentils should be avoided.
  • Do not consume butter, chips, cakes, pizza, sweets etc. at all.
  • Walk regularly in the morning and do pranayama.

Dried Indian gooseberry powder-

Amla is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C which helps in improving the functioning of the liver. In fact, by consuming Indian gooseberry, harmful toxins come out from the liver. Therefore, consume dried amla powder or 2-3 raw Indian gooseberry daily.

 

Turmeric is beneficial-

Turmeric has antioxidant, antifungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties which help in preventing liver-related diseases. Apart from this, turmeric also proves effective in balancing lipids and improving the process of insulin. For this, drinking one teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of warm milk provides relief in all liver-related disorders.

 

Apple Cider vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar is considered a perfect remedy for the fatty liver because it contains acetic acid which promotes the action of metabolism. Along with this, they work to manage the extra fat present in the body. Apart from this, the antitoxin properties found in it prove to be helpful in removing the toxins present in the liver.

 

Lemonade in Fatty Liver-

Citric acid is found in abundance in lemon which acts as an antioxidant. According to researchers, the citric acid found in lemon works to inhibit the oxidation process that occurs during this disease. For this drink a glass of lukewarm water mixed with lemon juice.

 

Bitter gourd juice is beneficial-

According to experts, bitter gourd juice is considered good for problems like fatty liver because bitter gourd has properties to prevent inflammation and oxidative stress. It also has the ability to control lipids. Hence, the use of bitter gourd juice is known to treat fatty liver.

 

Coconut water-

Drinking coconut water is a good option in the problem of fatty liver. It has an antioxidant and hepato-protective activity which provides relief in the problem of fatty liver.

 

Aloe Vera Juice-

Aloe vera has hypoglycemic (insulin-lowering) and antiobesity (obesity-reducing) properties. Therefore, it is helpful in getting rid of problems like fatty liver. For this, drinking aloe vera juice in your daily routine is very beneficial.
