Triphala is a polyherbal medicine consisting of three fruits. These fruits are

  • Amalaki (Emblica officinalis)It has a cooling effect that controls Pitta and supports the natural functions of the liver and immune system.
  • Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica)It is very good for pacifying Kapha Dosha.

In Ayurveda, Triphala is important for its Rasayana properties, which means this formulation is highly effective in maintaining the health and vitality of the body as well as preventing diseases.

Triphala contains several compounds believed to be responsible for its health benefits including carbohydrates, minerals, sodium, vitamins, fiber, gallic acid, chebulagic acid and chebulinic acid.

Benefits of Triphala

  • Reduces the risk of heart diseases-Triphala contains high concentrations of oleic and linoleic oil, which can help in reducing the risk of heart disease. Linoleic oil is important for increasing HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) while lowering levels of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol).
  • Good for digestive system-Triphala works very well as a laxative and can be used to stimulate bowel movements and prevent bloating. People with digestive or intestinal problems can take a spoonful of Triphala Churna before going to bed.
